Guiding Youth Through Community Support
The Programs

The LAPD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring the safety, education, and welfare of all young people throughout the City. The LAPD is committed to a number of programs that encourage young people to avoid drugs and gangs, stay in school, and contribute positively to society.

The Topanga Police Youth Board supports the following programs:

In February of 1998, Victor Eguez entered the Los Angeles Police Academy. After graduation, he completed his probationary period at West Valley and transferred to Pacific Division where he worked regular patrol, the Bike Unit, LAX Detail and the Beach Detail.

In 2006, Officer Eguez was invited to work in West Bureau where he received specialized training as a plain clothes and surveillance officer for the Hotel Detail, Bait Car Detail, Robbery Apprehension Detail and Surveillance Detail.

In November of 2008, he was promoted to Police Officer III and is currently assigned to Topanga Division as a Youth Service Officer for the Explorer program. Officer Eguez has taken an important role in developing the program and making it a success.

Officer Victor Eguez is a graduate from the University of California, Irvine with a double major in Sociology and Psychology. During his undergrad studies, Officer Eguez worked and assisted in research with Autistic Children in a program designed to establish independent living and also assisted with juvenile programs designed to rehabilitate and educate troubled youths. Officer Eguez feels fortunate that he can apply his education, his work experience and life experience to the Cadet program.

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.
